Why regulate ice cream trucks, but not guns?

While representing the Gun Responsibility Advocates to inform voters about an advisory referendum promoting safe gun storage on the November ballot during the Southeast Oak Park Community Organization (SEOPCO) Barriefest, our table our table happened to be located across the street from an ice cream truck. I was struck by the irony of the fact that ice cream trucks no longer play music in order to prevent the possibility of children being injured dashing into the street for ice cream. But guns, which are far more dangerous to children than ice cream trucks, are essentially unregulated.

2 Simpson: Gotcha, because you are not an aged shooter.

@Brian FYI it is a dot sight with no magnification and is a concession to aged shooters whose eyes are not what they were. Now, all competitive shooters focus on that little red dot.

@ Simpson: What else would you expect other than sarcasm from a guy who shoots a Colt 45 caliber with a scope?

@Brian - SEE 6,000 regulations have been eliminated - it must be President Trump's fault and he must be held accountable for the terror in Chicago streets.(Note to Progressives - this is "sarcasm" )

I thank God for the Gun Responsibility Advocates, Ken Traynor, Dr. Barret, Sandra Shimon, and my old sparring partner Gunz Kill. They are the intense fire that we, like steel are thrust into, hammered and hardened into stronger metal. @ Dominic Aherns, good to hear from you, and Don Petersen good to hear you are watching this issue from Maywood. I will accept the correction from 28,000 regulations to 22,000. My fault.

Gun Responsibility Advocates / Ken Trainor/ Dr John Barret / etal are pretty smart people. Why don't they see that every time they present their case, people who are knowledgeable in the art, make fools of them?

@Dominick Ahrens: BINGO!

I just realized - to Sandra, "essentially unregulated" equates to "able to be purchased". I just hadn't adjusted my world view far enough left.

"Essentially unregulated"? Given that there are thousands of laws on the federal, state, county and local level regard the manufacture, transport, purchase and use of firearms, I have to ask: what color is the sky in your world?

WOW, the public opinion seems to be running 0 in 6 against the Gun Responsibility Advocates. Perhaps they should re evaluate their purpose. It is hard to defend home and family while wringing your hands.

Question for Ms Shimon and the rest of her gaggle- Doesn't the word "responsibility" imply some exploration of the FACTS? The GRA are long on opinion and very short on factual data.

Uniformed politicians and politics are even more dangerous than all the above. Sandra Shimon is one such uninformed person, as is obvious. As mentioned, GUns are one of the most regulatd things IN this country EVEN though ownership is an inalienable right protecte by the Constitution. But, Ms Shimon doesn't even realize she was working a booth to pass Oak Park regulations that the State of Illinois already has. It is already illegal to leave firearms unlocked and accessible to Minors 14 and under who do not posess a FOID card. And those that do posess a FOID card, have almost all been properly trained on firearm safety. She also has obviosally never purchased a firearm and seen the process. Nor does she realize that every Illinois FOID holder has 360 background chexcks performed on them a year. If they have a Concealed Carry License double that.

Wow! Just Wow! I'll give the author the benefit of the doubt and assume she's just incredibly ignorant of the 22,000 plus Federal, State and Local existing gun laws and has probably never been near a gun shop in her life. But that ignorance is largely why there has been no new Federal gun control in over 30 years now. Keep up the good, but ignorant work gun controllers.

"But guns, which are far more dangerous to children than ice cream trucks, are essentially unregulated." In true Oak Park fashion, why not regulate both? I am led to suspect that more Oak Park residents will die as a long term consequence of eating too much ice cream (and other goodies) than will be shot to death. Let's address both problems. Enact a 10 cone limit and ban high capacity ice cream trucks. Keep our children safe and healthy!

once again the "Gun Responsibilities Advocates" parade another member of their group out to demonstrate their total ignorance of their selected quest. Ms Shimon has no working knowledge of Illinois FOID card program, The FBI instant background check. The 4473 form that a firearms purchaser swears to ( Felony for not telling the truth) The gun owners in our community will probably go along with new loony regulations because that is what we do. The problem group do not give a rats patoot about another non-binding referendum nor do they care about any new laws, regulations, or ordinances because they, as a group, are forbidden from possessing, much less owning a firearm in the first place. It is the height of ignorance to believe that you can solve a problem you refuse to define much less understand. Oh well, they are doing something so they never have to do anything that might inconvenience themselves.

Guns and gun purchases are regulated by if my memory serves correct 28,000 laws and regulations. What we have here is the ice cream truck drivers obey the law. Armed criminals wont obey the law.
